Cellar Door is hiring for the 24-25 Academic Year! Open positions are: Design Editors (2), website editor, poetry editor, fiction editor, nonfiction editor, and art editor. 

All position descriptions and applications are linked below. Applications are open from March 1 until 11:59 p.m. on April 1. Everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of their major or experience with the Cellar Door in the past. Please reach out to thecellardoor.unc@gmail.com if you have any questions or concerns!

Design editor(s)Responsible for the layout and design of the entire magazine, including the pairing of art and writing, the creation of the table of contents, and cover design. Responsible for developing ideas for themed-layout based on magazine content that will be pitched to the editorial board along with co-design editor. Must have proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Must have strong communication skills, and will need to communicate among genre editors if there are any issues with pieces, the length of pieces, etc. Required to attend monthly meetings. This position will likely require the most work and time around the month of January. Apply for Design Editor here.

Web editor: Responsible for the upkeep of Cellar Door website. Will aid the publicity editor in documenting events, including photography and video, and posting these on the website. Will update the website with all upcoming dates, as well as content from the magazine. Will develop creative and engaging web content, including potentially any audio/video submissions received. Will make regular updates to the website throughout the year. Required to attend monthly meetings. This position requires knowledge of WordPress. Apply for Web Editor here.

Poetry Editor: Responsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions. Communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces. Responsible for communicating with all contributors as to the status of their pieces, any edits needed to be made, and any other communication necessary. Required to attend monthly meetings. Will be a resource for staff members, and should set a good example in contributing to the community of Cellar Door, publicizing the magazine, and attending Cellar Door events. If necessary, will be asked to help copy edit the writing of the magazine near deadline time. Apply for Poetry Editor here.

Fiction EditorResponsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions. Communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces is imperative. Once decisions are made, the fiction editor is responsible for communicating with all contributors as to the status of their pieces, any edits needed to be made, and any other communication necessary. Required to attend monthly meetings. Will be a resource for staff members, and should set a good example in contributing to the community of Cellar Door, publicizing the magazine, and attending Cellar Door events. Creative Nonfiction Editor: Responsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions, communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces. They will be responsible for communicating with all contributors as to the status of their pieces, any edits needed to be made, and any other communication necessary, and they will work with the web editor to supply content for the website, including potential interviews with contributors and staff. They will be required to attend monthly meetings, as well as to be a resource for staff members, and they should set a good example in contributing to the community of Cellar Door, publicizing the magazine, and attending Cellar Door events. Art Editor: Responsible for soliciting and organizing incoming submissions. Communicating with and scheduling meetings among staff for reading and judging of pieces. Responsible for communicating with all contributors as to the status of their pieces, any edits needed to be made, and any other communication necessary. Will work with the Web editor to supply content for the website, including potential interviews with contributors and staff. Required to attend monthly staff meetings and biweekly editorial board meetings. Will be a resource for staff members, and should set a good example in contributing to the community of Cellar Door, publicizing the magazine, and attending Cellar Door events.
